Where's Your Sophisticated Side Ponytail?

Combine three guys, a really cute girl in a native american headdress and some pretty psychedelic colors. The result is either a wet dream for the nu-generation or Natalie Portman's Shaved Head video for "Sophisticated Side Ponytail." At under two minutes in length I would prefer for you to be the judge.

NEW DJ FRAMPSTER + DJ DUB MIXTAPE!

A few days back I received this mixtape from framps! He is one chill dude whom I've known for a few years now. If you've had the chance to see Lady Sovereign, then you've heard DJ Frampster on the decks consistently tearing it up before and during her show. Here's his most recent mixtape (which he also did the artwork for) with fellow "bredrin" DJ DUB.

THE (Motherfucking) LUXURY TAX

This is the Luxury Tax from San Francisco, California. "GIBILLVALIUMPILL" is seriously one of the best rock tracks i've heard in a LONG time...I'm PRAYING music goes back in this direction in the new year because GODDAMN....it's in a weird-ass place right now.....but with this, THERE'S HOPE!

Does Your Kid Have Color?

I come bearing gifts! Colorful Gifts! Kid Color gifts, that is.

Straight out of the LA/OC by way of Chicago, Kid Color has delivered one of the most impressive mixtapes I've heard all year while serving up some of the hottest dance tracks that certainly compete with the "big playahs." Whether he's remixing Interpol, mashing up Patrick Wolf or gettin' down n dirty with Bangers & Cash, this kid is adding color to it all making these hits feel so fresh and so clean all over again. Now I wouldn't typically post on anything Daft Punk related - I learned that lesson the tough way - but I am totally digging everything coming from the Color camp. Check these out, plus more available for download on the Kid Color MySpace:

Kid Color - Digital Pu$$y
Kid Color - Yo ZongaMajesty
Interpol - Obstacle 1 (Kid Color's She Can Read Mix)

Now we get to the mixtape...
Carded and Discarded came to me out of nowhere, it was through a MySpace add by a musician who had maybe around 10,000 plays at the time. I saw Franki Chan's name listed as an influence so figured why the hell not and downloaded the mixtape without peeking at the tracklist (what's wrong with a little surprise). What came to me was a surge of Animal Collective, Ghostface Killah, Black Ghosts, Avalanches and so much more that I wouldn't dare to press pause on...and yes, Animal Collective was not a typo, the tape begins with a spot-on edit of "For Reverend Green." If you're planning a party, download this and I guarantee that heads will be turned and ears will be cocked. If you're in the Chicago area don't forget to head over to Dark Wave Disco on the 23rd for Kid Color w/ Million $ Mano! More shows up on the MySpace.

MY TRIP W MATT & KIM

A couple weeks ago I flew out to meet up with MATT & KIM for the first couple shows of their just finished tour with CSS, THE GO! TEAM and NATALIE PORTMAN'S SHAVED HEAD. I was pretty pumped to see these shows happen as I'd always wanted MATT & KIM and CSS to play a show together ever since we first put out the record. Needless to say, it was a good time with all 4 bands putting on a great show.

I was with them JULY 30-31, along with frequent MATT & KIM photographer and friend TODD SELIE. I got to see MILWAUKEE and MINNEAPOLIS before I head to head off to TORONTO and play my first show as the new drummer for HEARTSREVOLUTION.

One of the highlights of the trip was that I was able to finally hear the just finished new MATT & KIM album! I have to say, I was blown away and I think the world is going to be very impressed when it is finally unleashed upon the world (which may be sooner than you expect). Here's some video of a couple of those new songs. Even though they slay them live, it doesn't show near the depth of what the album is, which is, dare I say, a whole new side of the band...

Here's some photos from the trip:

And to top it off, right before I left to tour to go hang with JUICEBOXXX before heading to the airport, we had one last horrah in the parking lot behind the club with some kids that were hanging about it. Sometimes all you need is a boombox, some cardboard and few moves...

This Cheap Week In NY

So I've spotted some Heartsrevolution shirts walking around Brooklyn and I just gotta say that I'm glad you're out there. Now that I know you're there, let's go over where you need to be this week on the cheap.

Blonde Redhead is playing tonight on Pier 54. Show begins at 6. If you feel like drinks afterwards then catch the 2 or 3 train back into Manhattan, transfer to the L, walk to the Highline Ballroom and catch a free DJ set by Nick Catchdubs and Spank Rock's Devlin and Darko (rsvp here).
Tomorrow night at 7, Dirty Projectors and White Williams play for free on the South Street Seaport.
My personal favorite event of the week takes place on Saturday at 3 on the Central Park Summerstage where Battles, Black Dice and Gang Gang Dance will show off what they got and destroy the expectations that you brought.
Now Sunday is a marathon day that I hope you're ready for. Start off at Union Square to catch the head of New York's second Silent Rave (remember: dance in the streets, not in your room). After getting your blood pumpin' and your feet thumpin' hurry over to the McCarren Park Pool and indulge in a little water gun action with Aesop Rock, Panther and Chin Chin. Chill out and relax until 8 when it's time to head to Sound Fix and catch Oxford Collapse doing what they do best...melting faces.
Good news here is that you can rest Monday, but be sure to catch Ra Ra Riot on Tuesday, 7pm, at The Virgin Megastore in Union Square.

Load all of this into your pda's/blackberrys/ipods/iphones/datebooks/etc and I'll catch ya next week!

I LIKE NEW STUFFF, FOR REALZ

Isn't that photo cute? That's form when I played in CHICAGO with CRYSTAL CASTLES and RADIOCLIT. One of the best kids in the business, HOLLYWOOD HOLT, came out, and I'll tell ya, it's ALWAYS good to hang out with that kid.

I thought, hey, that's a rad photo, let's post some rad new tracks. so here we are, 2 new HOLLYWOOD HOLT tracks!! One is a collaboration between HOLLYWOOD and NYC legend JUNIOR SANCHEZ. It's called 'Beat Drop' and I like it.

HOLLYWOOD HOLT & JUNIOR SANCHEZ - BEAT DROP

The other is a remix of a HOLLYWOOD HOLT classic 'Caked Up' by new and kick-ass remix duo BLACK HOLES. I highly recommend clicking on their link and listening to their other track 'I'm A Beast' as well. Fucking real good for some new kids. Anyways, here's this one:

HOLLYWOOD HOLT - CAKED UP (BLACK HOLES REMIX)

So I got to thinkin' that maybe while I was posting this new HOLLYWOOD HOLT stuff, that maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to give a shout out to TITTSWORTH as well since he his debut album that just dropped! It's called '12 Steps' and it's on PLANT MUSIC. You should totally buy it, cuz you know it's gonna rule. You can do that HERE.

And just to give ya a little taste, here's the lead single called 'WTF' and features KID SISTER and PASE ROCK!

TITTSWORTH - WTF feat. KID SISTER & PASEROCK

And finally, as a BONUS and speaking of KID SISTER, here's a recent segment from MTV NEWS that was filmed at LOLLAPALOOZA. It's JOHN NORRIS interviewing KID SIS and I happen to walk by and not only get a shout out, but a suprise visit from the camera. Oh, and that's catfish I'm eating...

COMICON BONUS: WAKING UP GREG ACID GIRLS

Here's a quick bonus video from COMICON. It's ummmm, me trying to wake up my roommate and friend GREG ACID GIRLS.... hahaha.
